Fear and anxiety are normal emotions in human beings. However, when this becomes too much for the body, it can lead to anxiety disorders where a person’s reaction to certain events leads to excessive nervousness and worry. Research on this field has its roots on fear and how the body and mind respond to specific circumstances. I monitored the behavior of my client individually while using a statistical analysis method, to find a way to decrease the fear and anxiety levels of my client. The frequency of occurrence of fear and anxiety in a clinical setting was recorded and analyzed. Based on this, the client was found to have fear and anxiety level, and individual therapy and journal writing were recommended. This is mainly to help her explore her feelings, thoughts, and emotions in a calm environment without having to worry about other people. The journal writing will also help her focus on her innermost emotions and be able to let them out through writing.

Purpose

The purpose of this study was to observe the fear and anxiety level of my client and come up with ways of decreasing her fear and anxiety levels through the use of individual therapy and journal writing.

Methodology

I used both qualitative and quantitative methods. I observed the client’s behavior and her responses towards the specific situation at work that seemed stressful to her. This information was recorded, analyzed and implemented using R-studio.

Results

The results I recorded through observation revealed that the client experienced levels of fear and anxiety. Her fear of a specific stressful situation was recorded for long durations. Some lasted hours and others less than an hour.

Discussion of Findings

Due to this fact that my client had high levels of anxiety and that the conditions in our agency are stressful to her, I recommended individual therapy and journal writing. Personalized treatment will be sufficient for her as she will be able to interact with the therapist on a one-on-one in an environment that she will feel safe and confident (Heffren & Hausdorf, 2016). Since her fears and anxiety makes her keep to herself, this type of therapy will enable her to explore and express her feelings to the therapist and be able to get help.

Journal writing will also be useful for her to escape from her day’s stress at work. This will help her calm her mind at her own free time. She can also be able to go through her journal and find out her stressors and come up with her best way to cope up. According to Shin and Liberzon, (2010), expressive writing where people take part in deep and relevant writing about traumatic situations which can help reduce stressors.

The Implication of the Practice

This study will be of great importance to both the agency and the client. The patient will be able to learn new ways of coping with her fears and anxieties in a stressful environment (Heffren & Hausdorf, 2016). The agency will benefit from this, in that, stressful situations to individual employees will be easily identified, and necessary interventions are adopted.

Limitation of the Study and Recommendations

The study was mainly limited to the qualitative method which included one-on-one interviews and observation. This aspect made the conversation with the client limited as she was not willing to share, mainly as she was observed in the agency’s premises (Traue, Kessler, & Deighton, 2016). This situation also made the recording of quantitative data a bit challenging.

For better results, it would be good to provide the subjects with an environment that they feel is comfortable for them.
