Wireless communication is one of the most essential mediums used to transmit information from one device to another. The application of this technology does not require any wire, cable or any other electric conductors to enable transmission of information ( Agrawal & Zeng, 2015). There are several types of wireless communications technologies. They include broadcast radio, satellite communication, microwave communication, Bluetooth technology, infrared communication, mobile communication systems, and WI-FI ( Agrawal & Zeng, 2015).
Wireless technology is an idea which began small and has since developed into one of the widely used carriers of digital information. Today, wireless communication technology enables efficient and easy functioning of different industrial niches. Some of the top trends of wireless communication technology include high data rates, ubiquity of the devices using wireless communication technology, smart antenna, cheaper, smaller and faster hardware as well as frequency congestion ( Buckley & Kezys, 2015). With the wireless communication technology, the data rates have continues to increase. Also, technology has penetrated through almost all the sectors in the world. Today, it is possible and easy to use wireless communication devices at home, in the city, inside a vehicle or even inside a boat. A smart antenna is some of the emerging technologies which have helped to improve and mitigate interference in the different access system ( Buckley & Kezys, 2015).

Wireless communication technology has several advantages and disadvantages. The first advantage is increased efficiency. The technology has made it possible for faster information transfer between business partners, schools environment, hospitals and other areas in which communication is important ( Geng, 2017). Another advantage is seen in the flexibility seen in different sectors. For example, workers can still deliver quality work from different areas of their residence without having to sit and work from the office. Students can deliver assignments from their areas of comfort without getting to sit in exam rooms at all times. Accessibility and availability enabled by wireless communication technology allow users to easily and efficiently communicate anywhere at any time ( Hamza, Deogun & Alexander, 2016). Often, people are not out of touch like it was before they were there. They are also cost savings and create new opportunities. Even with the many advantages of wireless communication, the technology has also come with several disadvantages. They include security challenges as the technology is exposed and can attract unauthorized users ( Hamza, Deogun & Alexander, 2016). Also, there are installation challenges which come about as a result of interference if others in the same building are using it. It may be difficult to get consistent coverage which may lead to black spots in areas where there are no signals.
