Project |
Using technology to develop an inventory management system that reduces costs, improves product flow, storage and employee safety. The project will be implemented at Sweet Harvest Farms, Florida. The strategic alignment of the project is operational and financial excellence.
Time frame: 1 st January, 2019 – 30 th April, 2019.
Scope: At the end of the project, S.H. Farms is expected to be better at: Reducing bottlenecks at the warehouse to ensure efficient product flow and storage. Using the data collected in the inventory system to identify inefficiencies in the warehouse processes. Resources |
Hardware and Software |
Servers – The servers will be used to store information from the inventory tracking software. The information will include the current stock, location of items and the amount needed to supply future orders. Barcode scanners – The barcodes will be used to track inventory, assets, equipment and supplies. The scanners will ensure that the employees are aware of equipment and machinery that need repair, and the movement of products. Employee smart cards – These will be used to limit access to certain areas of the warehouse, to ensure only authorized employees have access to those areas and wear protective gear. Manufacturing portal – The portal will be accessible to employees and supervisors, which will enable to track the movement of finished products and raw materials. |
Personnel |
Server maintenance – The person will be responsible for the systems functionality and conducting repairs. Trainers – The employees will be taught how to operate the system, update information and make changes to inventory. Programmers – The programmers will develop system and incorporate the software into the company’s existing infrastructure. |

Project Phases |
Phase 1 Project managers use the first phase of a project to determine the project’s value and feasibility. The two evaluations used are documents with the potential benefits of a project and a feasibility study. The second step is project planning, and this requires a solid plan to guide the team, a budget and a timeline. Phase 2 Project execution involves building deliverables, allocating resources and assigning tasks to team members. The phase relies heavily on the planning, and this is the main part of project management. Project monitoring starts after execution to ensure that there is effective use of resources, prevent scope creep and perform the key performance indicators. Phase 3 The last phase is project closure delivering the finished product to the project sponsor, communicating the completion to stakeholders and releasing the product to the company’s use. Project closure allows the team to reflect on the project and indentify the failures and successes. |

Project Dependencies and Constraints |
Project dependencies are factors that contribute to the success of a project, and show a logical relationship between activities and tasks. For a project to move through the phases, Task A has to be completed before Task B begins. The project should have enough resources and personnel to ensure that tasks are completed on time, and within the budget. The constraints of the project include risk, scope, cost, time, quality and resources. The constraints interrelated and affect the progress and execution of the project. If there are no resources, the project will exceed the timeline and this will increase the cost of the project. The increase in cost is attributed to alternative resources that might be expensive. The project manager should ensure that there are no added requirements that were not included in the planning phase, as this leads to delay. |
