Human life is sacred if the teachings of the holy scriptures are anything to go by. The Bible, Quran, and other holy texts teach on the sacredness of life, forbidding any mortal life from taking another. The American constitution recognizes this and equally considers illegal the act of taking another person's life, even if such an action is not ill intended. Euthanasia, or the act of mercy killing, is not ethical since it goes against both the teachings of religion and against the constitutional rights of life.

According to the Golden Rule, Socrates points out that it is not part of the just man to har anyone, echoing the sentiments of Jesus of Nazareth in Mathew that people should do to others what they would like done unto them (Berchman, 2008). No person would want to be hurt or murdered, and as such, no person should take part in the killing of another, the reasons behind such a move notwithstanding. The Sisters of Mercy point out that every human being has the spiritual obligation to pray for the living and the dead, which can be understood to mean that instead of concealing the fate of another, Christians are supposed to pray for the will of God to prevail (Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, 2019). Religion is quite vocal when it comes to euthanasia, bearing in mind that God forbids it since human life is sacred and special.

Every person has the right to freedom from mortal life. Hinduism and Buddhism hold that life is a continuing cycle of being born, living, and dying and being reborn again in another realm, and that every mortal man has the right to go through the cycle undisturbed by such factors as being murdered (“BBC,” 2019). In conclusion, it is essential to observe how religion holds firmly against euthanasia, and since religion is what dictates what direction humans take, euthanasia should thus be considered unethical.
