Same-sex marriages refers to an instance in which two people, both of either the male or female gender get married and engage in married couple activities such as raising children. However, due to the nature of such a marriage differences emerge, which are among the reasons why same-sex marriages are harming America. There are various instances in which individual people contribute towards the growth of America, which is influenced by many factors, incusing family and marriage. Therefore, same-sex marriages also have the ability of contributing positively or negatively towards the growth and development of America. The aim of this paper is to establish and describe the negative impact of same-sex marriages, thus how it is harming America.
Among the reasons why same-sex marriages are harmful to America, is because it leads to the possible increase in demand for the legalization of polygamy. According to Finsterbusch (2008), same-sex marriages foster an environment where an instance of the creation and acceptance of the notion that only love and companionship are the significant elements of marriage. Therefore, based on that notion, all relationships, that provide love and companionship should be deemed as “marriage” irrespective of the people in that “marriage” for instance, an adult and a child can be deemed “married” provided love and companionship are present is such as relationship.

Similarly, same-sex marriages results in imbalance between the availability of men and women for marriage, thus fostering the legalization of polygamy to accommodate the excesses. Same-sex marriages result in a culture and environment that makes it possible for more than two people to be involved, which increases the chances of its legalization. Polygamy may result in negative implications such as homicides caused by family issues within polygamous marriages brought about by jealousy or even resentment. Increased incidences of homicides results in insecurity among other family members, thus deeming same-sex marriages as harmful to America.
Another reason why same-sex marriages are harmful to America is because it deprives children of the opportunity to be raised by a married mother and father. The ideas of same sex marriages advocates for people of the same gender get married and raise children (Finsterbusch, 2008) . Such children end up missing the opportunity of being raised by a married mother and father. Studies have suggested that some of the issues concerning sexuality and identity crisis develop among young children, who grow up within same-sex marriages. As a result, such children may develop other emotional and psychological issues such as low self-esteem, which negatively impacts their social as well as school life. The performance of such children declines especially when introduced to such a situation at middle age. The American community is therefore deprived of a member that would have contributed better to the economy in the absence of the negative implications of same-sex marriages.
Because of same-sex marriages, more children are either growing up fatherless or motherless, thus its harmfulness to America. This is because there is no chance for there to be both a father and a mother in same-sex marriages (Finsterbusch, 2008) . Roles of fathers are not being passed on to their sons and the same is happening with mothers and their daughters. Therefore, stress among spouses who are trying to be both mothers and fathers develops, which affects their performance at work thus the American economy. Similarly, same-sex marriages enable an environment where gender roles may be taught to male children by their mothers, in a lesbian marriage, and female children by their fathers in homosexual marriages. Studies suggest that there may be instances where transfer of gender roles in such marriages fails resulting in children who are unable to conform to their gender-typical roles thus the issues such as abandonment. For instance, a boy raised in a lesbian marriage may not learn the basic role of a man to protect since he grew up seeing women protect each other as well as him. This results in issues in the future heterosexual relationships such as boy engages in, which negatively influences productivity of such couples.
Birth rates, due to same-sex marriages, would fall thus deeming the act harmful to America, which calls for a debate against the same. Same-sex marriages result in the performance of the intended purpose for marriages, which is recreation (Finsterbusch, 2008) . People of the same sex cannot naturally conceive a child, thus contribute to a fall in birth rate robbing the American economy of both human resource and market. Decreased birth rates result in a decline in the American workforce therefore negatively influencing growth. Instances of increased immorality among Americans have the possibility of increasing because of same sex-marriage, which makes it harmful to America. Studies have shown that among teenagers and youth, moral decay is among the impacts of avenues such as adoption programs since people in same-sex marriage adopt children since they cannot reproduce naturally. Therefore, there is the spread of sexually transmitted diseases causing a decline in output for lack of a healthy workforce. Resources are also pulled out of other projects to fund heath care in response to the same, thus negatively affecting the American economy.
Parental commitment among Americans can further diminish as a result of Same-sex marriage, thus harming America. According to Akerlof, in the 1960’s and 1970’s, the availability of contraceptives, as well as abortion procedures resulted in a sexual revolution that led to absenteeism of fathers since they could blame their partners for ignorance or failure to abort. Similarly, the allowing of same-sex marriages s plausibly suspected as possibly having identical consequences concerning the institution of marriage (Akerlof, Yellen &Katz, 1996) . Legal recognition of same-sex marriages has institutionalized the notion that children do not want both their father and mother, further weakening the cultural and legal symbol of the marriage contract. As a result, men in America will rationalize acts of abandonment resulting in children who suffer from the same. Studies have indicated that emotionally starved children in America are the products of child neglect. Such children grow up having unresolved abandonment issues, which results in confused and unstable individuals (In Wardle, 2008) . The declining number of a reliable workforce, thus harm attributed to same-sex marriages, negatively influences America’s healthy and stable workforce.
Lastly, marriages succeed when partners focus in gender-typical roles, thus the argument against same-sex marriage, which is harmful to America. Research had shown that institutionalization of same-sex civil marriages would result in regression as far de-gendering marriages was concerned. This would result in the adoption of gender-neutral language, which would also neuter the thoughts and behaviors in marriages. However, research further indicates that, when spouses take up roles that are gender-typical, while paying attention to the gendered needs of their wife or husband, such marriages typically thrive. Therefore, thriving of marriages would result in fewer cases of divorce, which also has negative implications on people living in America. Studies have indicated increased levels among divorced couples as well as their families both emotionally and psychologically (Hetherington & Kelly, 2003) . The American workforce is therefore negatively affected due to a lack of an adequately healthy workforce, which has negative implications on the economy. Same-sex marriages is harmful to America because it does not provide the necessary environment for marriage to thrive due to inadequate assumption of gender typical roles.
