The term Islamophobia has become common in modern-day vocabulary, owing to the hostility of Muslims, based on the irrational fear generated by Islam. Over the years, racism has influenced the extent to which Islamophobia has spread. The following is an analysis of how Islamophobia is as a result of racism and suggestion of steps to be taken to combat Islamophobia.
The racialization of Islamophobia is evident whereby Muslim and non-Muslims find themselves at the receiving end of anti-Muslimism racism. Several factors such as skin color, beard and head covering cause perception of Islam as a race rather than a religion. Muslims have therefore been viewed as a lesser race, a factor that promotes discrimination and bigotry. Combatting Islamophobia may not be an easy task because of its prominence in the society. However, several steps should be undertaken to mitigate the effects of Islamophobia and eventually rid the community of it. Extensive civil education on the extent of the problem is essential in establishing the cause of the problem. Such knowledge also informs the public of the dire effects that Islamophobia, othering, and bigotry has on members of society. The acknowledgment that a problem exists is the first step towards solving it. The government also needs to lay out structures that tackle Islamophobia and the racialization of Islam.

In response to the classmate post, it is a fact that racism greatly influences islamophobia. People have been racialized based on their skin color and other factors that are viewed as Muslim. Brown people and those of color are often associated with Islam hence at the receiving end of Islamophobia. To a great extent, national politics has also contributed to anti-Muslimism racism, with politicians associating the religion with terrorism and fear. Islamophobia should be eradicated to promote a safe environment for Muslims and non-Muslims who are perceived Muslim based on their color or other physical attributes.
