As a result of evolution in the nursing profession, change in the educational focus has also been on the rise (Pearson, Field & Jordan, 2007). Evidence-based practice is one of the most significant trends in healthcare today (Pearson, Field & Jordan, 2007). Evidence-based practice is an approach to patient care based on the best available research and practice guidelines and in a specific clinical focus (Pearson, Field & Jordan, 2007). Successful implementation of evidence-based practice include elements such as an interactive decision-making in regards to planning for treatment and care that integrates care team members and also considers the patient’s opinions, continuous nursing education, addressing clinical issues and a strong emphasis on skills for problem solving and supporting clinical decisions with sound evidence based on research ("Evidence-Based Practice: The Problem-Solving Approach", 2018).
Evidence-based practice has faced some challenges in its implementation in the nursing profession. One of the major problems in my organization is the existence of resistance to change and what is considered as the norm in the nursing profession ("Evidence-Based Practice: The Problem-Solving Approach", 2018). Some nurses have created a strong force that resists any changes being implemented including the need for supporting evidence for the decisions that they make. As a result, it has not been easy to apply the practice smoothly, which derails the efforts being made towards improving healthcare and the nursing profession.

Addressing the challenge of resistance is necessary to ensure that the practice is implemented smoothly (Lipscomb, 2016). The first step in addressing this challenge is through education and passing the information on the benefits of the practice ("Evidence-Based Practice: The Problem-Solving Approach", 2018). As it has been seen in all other professional fields, change is usually met with high resistance from those who have been practicing the profession for longer. However, where prior education and training on the importance of the proposed change helps to demystify the negative perceptions associated with the change (Lipscomb, 2016). Therefore, it is important that the nurses who are already practicing be taken through intensive training on the need for implementing evidence-based practice, and how the practice helps improve the nursing profession and patient experience.
