United States of America’s healthcare system is currently facing a healthcare access issue. The affordable care act (ACA), which was supposed to facilitate universal access to medical care is associated with diverse challenges regarding web-based enrolment system. Additionally, it does not permit many citizens to renew their existing, nonconforming insurance policies. Consequently, such complications have been met with increased health care costs in the country, recording the highest healthcare expenditure of about $2.8 trillion. In spite of the elevated healthcare costs, the country has very poor health quality and outcomes and the number of individuals who can afford the health insurance plans are very few (Feinson, 2019).

The United States can offer subsidies as a permanent solution to help citizens and poor families to purchase the right types of private health insurance coverage based on available healthcare exchanges. Notably, the subsidies will provide citizens and families who record incomes below 400% of the federal poverty level (Feinson, 2019). This will equally provide immigrants with the opportunity to obtain health insurance coverage and access medical care. Additionally, the country should extend its Medicaid programs to individuals with less than 138% income of the federal poverty level. Similarly, there is need to further expand the Medicare programs should include preventive services and this should not require the patients to make co-payments to at least reduce the existing coverage gap, especially for prescription drugs (Toscos, et al., 2018). Consequently, this will contain healthcare costs and facilitate access to medical services. Above all, setting expectations related to accountability during the provision of care will improve patient experience and overall customer service due to emotional support to patients in clinics.
