Criteria Used to Determine the Above Duties, Responsibilities, and Qualifications

In developing the Data Analyst job description, the primary consideration was the organization's internal needs and dynamics in the external business environment. Currently, the organization is churning out vast amounts of data from different functional units, especially the marketing and sales department ( Erevelles, Fukawa & Swayne, 2016 ). The enormous volumes of raw data coupled with the contemporary trends of business data analytics, inform the need for an experienced data analyst. Such an expert will help the company compete favorably with its peers in the industry. The first step pertained to evaluating the completion in the industry, a process that involved researching what other competitors were doing to remain ahead of the organization ( Erevelles et al. 2016 ). The second step involved comparing their strategies with those of the company. From this analysis, the decision to hire an experienced Data Analyst was arrived at. Research on the critical competencies of Data Analysts was then conducted.

The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) were the laws consulted in the development of this job description. The FLSA was useful in classifying a candidate as exempt or non-exempt. It will also be instrumental in negotiating for wages and benefits. The NLRA was used to tailor the responsibilities such that the candidate to be hired will be considered as a supervisor ( Diana, 2017 ). As a supervisor, the employee will have the authority to promote, assign, and direct other employees under their scope.
