Suicide bombing is a bomb attack conducted by an individual through self-killing, causing death to people within the vicinity. The bombings events are detrimental to human beings as they cause death, destruction of properties and inflict injuries. According to Singh (2013), suicide bombing has increased progressively and have contributed an increase in death cases globally. Although many people view the suicide bombing as barbaric, Riaz Hassan identifies politics, humiliation, and altruism as the primary causes of the incidences. The author postulates that bombers are sane people with advanced weapon knowledge.

Politics contribute significantly to the occurrence of suicide bombings. Some political groups sponsor terrorists to cause the bombings after prolonged protests to achieve a specific purpose. Other individuals are involved in a suicide mission to acquire political success and community approval. Political differences act as a catalyst for the occurrence of suicide bombings. Political events such as elections are the potential cause of the bombings where the defeated parties fail to concede defeat and instead organize terrorists to cause chaos.

Humiliation is discussed as a significant cause of suicide bombing which involves making an individual or a group to lower their dignity and self-esteem after performing forced actions that are not culturally accepted by the humiliated parties. The persons concerned are affected emotionally which can trigger responses that are detrimental to their lives and their surroundings. Suicide bombing is likely to occur due to posttraumatic stress or while making efforts to relieve themselves from the condition (Fink, 2010). The humiliated group also team up to form groups that cause havoc as evidenced in Iraq after the release of the prisoners of Abu Ghraib. Humiliation triggers suicide bombing as those affected tend to revenge.

Suicide bombings may arise from altruism where a person dies to benefit the community or a specific group. Altruism is likely to happen where a group has been subjected to conditions that do not favor them. For instance, some people can sacrifice their lives where persistent subjection to violence and injustice prevails for the benefit of the larger group. Harsh punishments set by the state authority may be perceived as unfair by a specific group which might set off suicide bombing to depict non-compliance. Therefore, it is supreme for authorities to observe fairness to sensitive issues.

The 2017 Manchester Arena attack is an excellent example of suicide bombing. The attack happened in a concert organized by Ariana Grande where 22 people were confirmed dead and many injured (BBC, 2017). Majority of those affected were the young people who had attended the occasion. The BBC reported that the bomber was identified shortly after the incidence. The Manchester bombing was declared as a heartless act by the Prime Minister Theresa May for killing innocent souls. The explosion was generally regarded as an evil action by the Britain citizens and people from all walks life.

Some circumstances that facilitated the occurrence of Manchester explosion are similar to Riaz Hassan’s arguments. The bombing was caused by a sane individual as there are no reports regarding the mental disorder. The bomber had special weapon knowledge since it is reported that the weapons were rare and were likely to be sourced from outside country. The report indicated that the bombing was a counter-terrorist action since criminals were arrested daily before the attack. Perhaps, the culprits felt humiliated by the set security regulations. The similarity between Hassan’s ideas and the practical occurrence rationalize the impact of the abovementioned conditions. Security agencies can draw cautions and increase expertise in the discussed situation to deter future happening of such crimes.

Contrasting situations arose between the two excerpts. Despite Hassan insisting that suicide bombing is primarily caused by politics rather than religion, the Manchester event is attributed to the religion. The BBC report showed that the Islamic state group was responsible for the explosion. Lack of political discussions or involvement in the report is an indication that politics is not a substantial factor while predicting the causes of suicide bombing.

In conclusion, it is evident that the suicide bombings occur even in the present days from the Manchester Arena incidence. Revenge increased weapon use, and counteractions were rated as the most obvious factors that facilitate suicide bombing. The argument between politics and religion as causes of attacks is debatable since both reports provided contrasting information. People have conflicting views regarding the causes of crimes at different perspectives depending on their beliefs.
