Theories have been a central element used to explain different social revolutions. Regardless of marginalization of Marxism in academia today, it is worth noting that fundamental principles discussed by this philosopher squarely fit in today’s society and can be used to explain inherent inequalities extensively. The rise of Black lives matter movement is a replication of history. Besides the fact that it can be likened to revolutions such as the peasant war or national liberation and others such as the French revolutions, the tenets inherent in Marx and weber’s propositions can be used to explain the causes of such upraising.

An increase in incidences of police brutality can directly or indirectly be explained by class stratification, racial discrimination and capitalism. While slavery, segregation based on race and racial discrimination are aspects that have influenced the amendment of the US constitution, inequality is still propagated by agents such as security forces, some of who still hold onto the notions that blacks are inferior and should not be accorded their rights as stipulated in the constitution. One of Weber’s belief is that capitalism is a system reinforced by the political and economic system. This can impart thoughts on factors influencing contention between blacks and the police in the US; hence, the rise of black lives matter movement.

The revolutionary situations that have influenced the black lives matter movement are mainly related to blacks’ suffering in America that has been acute in the recent past, a consciousness of oppression and increased mass action that is not only supported by blacks but also a few whites. Besides this, Weberian stratification is evidenced in power vested in the police, one that they have abused and used it against many blacks, regardless of the people’s resistance and the presence of laws that protect the oppressed. Just as Weber sees different sources of inequality, unless there is a different view on what class is in America, status and how political power influences all Americans’ wellbeing regardless of their color, black lives matter movement is unlikely to become a think of the past in the future.
