Owner-Laborer Exploitation Relationship

During my fieldwork internship, I had a taste of the laborers-owner exploitation, as described by Karl Marx. During the period, I did not receive any form of payment or appreciation for the services rendered. Additionally, I was overloaded with tasks where I was expected to report to work at 7 am instead of 8 am and still leave last. Often, the owner, who was also the manager of the entity delegated his duties to me. Often, he sent me to run the company’s errands without providing compensation as it would be in case of a messenger. He took advantage and exploited me because I was an internship.

Alienation

Marx asserts that under capitalism, workers suffer four kinds of alienations. These include alienation of product, alienation in productive activity, alienation from species-being, and alienation of other human beings. In my case, there was the case of the separation of the product. I engaged in the production of steel rods that I do not own and have no control over what they happen. The other three alienation was not available in my case. The reason there was no alienation in productive activity because I was not unconnected to the operation of working itself and consequently becomes alienated from my lives. In the case of alienation from species-being, I was not disconnected from what is distinctive and necessary about being the kind of creature. Lastly, alienation for other human beings was not available as we were not competitive with the owner.

False Consciousness

False consciousness refers to the concept of the Marxist theory of social class. It refers to the methodical misrepresentation of dominant social relations in the knowledge of subordinate clauses. Among the factors that Marx would consider include domination, subordination, and exploitation. Among the beliefs that make people believe that capitalism is not the cause of human misery is their assumptions that capitalism promotes freedom, cooperation, enhance independence by promoting people to make their own decision. Nonetheless, for Marx, it is the source of oppression as laborers are exploited by the owners for their personal gain.
