In nursing, a personal philosophy includes reviews of one's principles, beliefs, and values in delivering care. My nursing philosophy began by trying to answer some questions such as, "why does nursing exist," and "who does nursing serve." My philosophy of nursing is characterized by dedication, empathy, truthfulness, and a degree of selflessness. I believe these values are vital in nursing practice since they guide nursing standards of action and influence nursing practice decisions. These listed values relate to my nursing practice because, as a nurse, I have to be dedicated to taking care of patients regardless of their socioeconomic status. I have to be truthful about patients' medication and selfless while caring for the patients because nurses should deliver quality care that improves patients' outcomes.

My personal philosophy of nursing characterizes nursing into a person, environment, health, and nursing concepts. I do believe that nursing is all about people since nursing serves individuals, families, and communities. In the healthcare sector, nursing aims to care for individuals, families, and communities to maintain, attain, or recover optimal health and quality of life. Caring for patients involves taking care of patients as a whole and not just focusing on some specific health concern or single illness. I believe that health is a dynamic state existing on a continuum of illness and wellness. In nursing, wellness is a healthy lifestyle that gives a positive outlook on our lives. On the other hand, illness is a state where one feels ill or sick. Wellness and illness relate to health since they are precursors of health.

The process of nursing utilizes a problem-solving approach and patient-centered care. Each individual has unique needs, and therefore needs a different care delivery plan. I believe that a nursing process plans care according to patients' preferences and accommodates various patients' needs. The process of nursing is an excellent way of catering to individual patient's needs. My nursing philosophy has been caring and compassionate. In the nursing profession, one must have a substantial amount of caring and compassion when caring for various patients. In caring for patients, both emotional and physical health needs to be considered. Instead of becoming treatment-oriented, healthcare systems should focus on the wellness of the population. Despite the fact that no individual is perfect, I believe that I have several strengths that make me competent in the nursing field.

Jean Watson is the theorist that closely describes what I believe about nursing. In her theory of human caring, Jean Watson emphasized the value of caring in the nursing profession. One vital concept of the theory states that caring promotes health than curing ( Watson & Woodward, 2020 ). There is a truth in this statement since the cure is not always available in most cases. Therefore, the nurses are responsible for providing comfort and care for the patient. In her theory, Jean Watson provided some factors crucial for the success of nursing practices. Most of the factors highlighted in theory form a basis for patients’ health enhancement demonstrated by caring.

I think Jean Watson describes my nursing belief because I define nursing by caring. Nurses are responsible for providing all the necessary things needed during times of pain and crisis. In taking care of the patient, nurses should not treat the patient as objects ( Pajnkihar et al., 2017 ). Indeed, Jean Watson’s theory of human caring describes the whole world of nursing, emphasizing the relationship between caregivers and the patients
