When it comes to healthcare and nursing, various rules and regulations govern one's practice. One source of these laws and regulations is the Nurse Practice Act (NPA), a legal authority that regulates nursing (Olson & Stokes, 2016) . In addition to defining the jurisdiction of the board of nursing, the NPA equally develops nursing administrative rules and regulations. The NPA oversees the operations of the state nursing boards. Another source of nursing laws and regulations is the American Nurses Association agency (Olson & Stokes, 2016) . This body regulates the conduct of nursing practitioners across America, developing rules and regulations that govern their practice, as well as putting up disciplinary committees to listen to, and punish nurses who act in contrary to the set expectations. The rules and regulations set by the said two sources are critical in providing the framework on which my nursing career is based. They help stipulate my duties and expectations, hence giving me a clear career goal to work towards.

On the other hand, the rules and regulations are critical in providing a framework which is essential in handling professional disputes between my colleagues and me. Lastly, the laws and regulations are a crucial tool in providing for and supporting my rights as a nursing practitioner against biased lawsuits (Olson & Stokes, 2016) . A positive impact that the laws and regulations have had on my career is that they have provided a legal framework within which I practice my profession, hence protecting my interest against unlawful suits or biased judgment. However, the laws and regulations limit my functionality within a given frame, especially as it pertains to work ethics (Olson & Stokes, 2016) . I cannot, for instance, freely give my opinion or act in the best interest of a patient without having to check with what the laws and regulations say about the given subject. The result is that I am reduced into a robot that is expected to follow stipulated guidelines automatically, even if they go against my principles as an individual.
