Layout decisions entail determining the placement of departments, work groups within the departments, workstations, machines, and stock-holding points within a production facility (Jacobs & Chase, 2014 p. 169). This sentence is the most significant of the three chapters I have read. All the processes in any particular organization are effected through proper planning. The planning procedure requires the best layout techniques so that the operations can be faster and efficient. Also, the time spent in the waiting line can be significantly reduced if proper layout decision is made. In most cases, layout decisions have implications for productivity, competitiveness, quality of any factory or firm in general. It determines the speed at which manufacturing takes place, the rate at which a system can be automated, meeting the demand volume among others. Therefore, the sentence I have selected relates closely to chapters 7, 8 and 9 of the book. There are significant parts of the sentence that looks interesting, making it unique in the chapters;
Placement of departments -When the space in any organization is organized well, the interaction between workers and managers or between the workers and customers becomes effective. Consultations between the staff or staff and supervisors are made more accessible through the best layout systems.

Workgroups within the departments -Layout decisions enhance coordination of the workgroup in the departments. Individual departments are closely associated or interdependent. Such departments should be arranged in such a way that they are close to enabling the effective coordination of the operations.
Workstations -The working and effectiveness of the workstations depend on how best the factory is organized. For instance, if the conveyor belt is utilized, the workstation should be arranged in a way that the assembling steps run smoothly from one stage to the next.
