The problem presented in the case is urgent transition from newspaper to digital media which would of course drain the company finances and reduce the number of subscribers. The leadership concepts addressed include leadership theories, traits and challenges applicable to the case.
The behavior theory focuses of the behavior of the democratic and autocratic leaders. Democratic leadership is characterized by the involvement of team members in the decision making process. Autocratic leadership, on the other hand, excludes the team from decision making. In the case, Nick made it clear to everyone that their efforts were vital to the transformation. His approach was open and it contributed towards adopting a collaborative group to work with which was a reflection of democratic leadership.
