Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection that affects animals and people and often transmitted through the contact of contaminated substances with infected urine. The bacteria reaches the body through eyes, mucous membranes or open wounds. Symptoms of leptospirosis include fever and chills, jaundice, headache, coughing, muscle pain or irritated eyes. More so, the condition is often associated with disastrous complications if left untreated. It can lead to organ failures such as liver failure, brain damage, meningitis, and breathing difficulties. Leptospirosis is at times confused with flu and other related infections thus it is hard to diagnose it at early stages. Leptospirosis has been diagnosed more often in people with weakened immune symptoms, particularly those with pneumonia, children under 5 years and the senior population. Further, the cases reported of this condition are from tropical climate areas and hot locations of developing nations. In the U.S, cases are mostly in Hawaii and Puerto Rico and specifically among sewage workers, military personnel, agricultural workers and practitioners of recreational water sports (Prevention, 2019) . Travelers to high areas should avoid contact with peculiar soil or water, cover any wounds and wear protective clothing when making contact with the water and opt for professional advises from health care providers.
Case study
Dr. Johnson has been working at a Community Hospital of the West for 15 years. The physician has been performing all kinds of anesthesia procedures of which is comparatively tiresome. Even so, with time, his colleagues noticed his change of behavior, precisely, a haggard-looking trait which was worrying. Further, for six months, some of the OR nurses noticed an unusual behavior where Dr. Johnson prescribed morphine as a pain killer to patients who did not complain of pain or did not deserve the prescription. It can be perceived that Dr. Johnson was ailing from a condition associated with pain-seizures and so he had to use morphine. Unfortunately, he was caught up in an addictive cycle that caused narcotics irregularities in context to medical and ethical mistakes. The Hospital bears responsibility for Dr. Johnson’s predicament as it did not have a confidential strategy to report employees for suspected abuse ( Kossaify et al., 2017) . Having such a structure in the facility could have helped report Dr. Johnson in proper channels that could most probably result in positive health outcomes due to the accessibility of professional intervention such as confidential counseling.
