1. What does the scripture state (in your own words)?
James chapter 4 builds on James chapter 3. In Chapter 3, James describes how Christians were guided by worldly ideas. They did whatever they could do to get what they wanted in life. This included hurting others. Now, James 4:11 is a warning to Christians not to judge, fight, or persecute each other because doing so is not only slanderous, but also against the will of God. In the Biblical context, slander is defined as the act of spreading hurtful lies or unkind things about another person. Judging someone means holding a status of authority over others. This verse reflects Leviticus 19:16, which states, “you shall not go around as a slanderer among your people….” The two verses command Christians to love each other.
2. How does this scripture apply/relate to the concepts of relationships, communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution?
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
In today’s life, conflicts are inevitable. However, despite the many ways available for solving conflicts, God has been left out. Many people do not realize that God’s ways are much higher compared to the ways of human beings. For people to experience lasting and true peace in their relationships, then, it is imperative to resolve conflicts through God’s ways. His way of solving conflicts is forming a relationship with Him. Pleasing God forms the cornerstone for solving conflicts with other people. God asks in James 4:1, “What are the quarrels and conflicts among you?” After this verse, God further says that the lone source is selfishness. Therefore, conflicts can only be solved by repenting selfishness and humbling before God. Here, the key message is submitted to God and repent all the sins.
3. Explain how you can apply this scripture in your own life.
At times, I find myself displaying my inability to live out God’s way. Particularly, when I am annoyed by someone, I start judging the person. This scripture teaches me that even when I am confronted with a host of concerns and issues, I should remember to love my neighbor the same way God loves me. By fulfilling this command, I shall love my neighbor just as myself. I plan to apply this scripture in my everyday life, be it at school or work, by examining myself, considering my actions, and adjusting my life accordingly.
