Smoking signals

The movie presents Arnold as an alcoholic character. At one point in the movie, while victor is sitting on a chair watching television when their parents engage in an argument. Victor's mother tells Arnold no more drinking. Arnold engaged her wife in a fight slapping her, trying to grab her purse. Arnold runs moves out of the house and starts his truck and disappeared. Arnold nullifies the efforts of victor going away with him. He disappeared and never to be seen again. His disappearance is related to how the Indian people have become invincible in contemporary society. Native Americans were relocated by the government. Many of these natives became scattered and became less recognized. Arnold disappeared and left his family to go to phoenix. Desperation character results in the natives into alcohol use some of the people in modern society ending up homeless

Throughout the movie, storytelling has been an important tool in plot development. Thomas tells the story of the experiences he had gone through and what he had learned from the Native American culture. Thomas is happy when recounting his history and is annoyed by people who seem not attentive to his story. The characters Thomas and victor demonstrate some opposition ideas but learn a lot from each other. Storytelling is essential in passing on the history and culture of the Native Americans to the next generations.

The movie smoke signals provide the real idea of how the Native Americans are stereotyped. They are represented in a fashion that has the main objective of stereotyping the Indians. They are presented as stoic warriors and bloodthirsty individuals. The Indians are perceived not to have any particular language and grunt or whoop. The characters believe that Indians should be treated with more integrity and respect.

Victor and Thomas are two characters in the movie who are always on the opposite side of each other. Victor seems to have no interest in the stories being narrated by Thomas about the Native Americans and their culture. This angers Thomas; however the two characters learn a lot from each other. The relationship between the two is sour though not lacking some positives. The relationship between the two characters indicates the tense relationship that exists between contemporary societies and the Native American. The concepts of contemporary social realities go against some beliefs of the Native Americans.

The government forces came into action during the process of relocating the Indians. They were relocated to Mississippi when congress passed the Indian removal act. During the duration, more than 50 tribes were taken away from their homes. The Indians were promised a whole district, but the situation did not become permanent, with the government failing to honor their promise.

The characters in the smoke signal are well aware of the reality of the Indian people living in the United States. They deem themselves being in a foreign land. In the smoke signals firms, victor and Thomas believe they were living in a foreign land. Competitions involving the Indians and American nations are viewed as a contest between Indians and the people of Columbia. This shows significant stereotypes from the Native American's side of view.

The speech at the end of the movie is very important in enhancing unity in society. The speech determines the way forward in solving the challenges of bitterness from their father's sins and how families should come together.

In the film smoke signals, the fathers have done some signs which must be forgiven. They have abandoned their families and are deep into alcohol and drug abuse. They have neglected their fatherly roles with their children facing many challenges in their lives. Father engages their families in constant fights. In the film, Arnold is a character that illustrates the sins of a father. He runs away from home after a fight with the wife and never to return again.

The irony is evident when victor receives financial help to go and see his father in phoenix. When victor asks whether there is a need to sign any paper, Arlene responds, "No way. You know how Indians feel about signing papers" in a separate incidence, Thomas says he heard the news of victor’s father through the wind.

Thomas was rescued by Arnold from fire during his childhood; as a result, Arnold is a great hero, according to Thomas. Victor, on the other hand, perceives his own father as an alcoholic and violent man who abandoned his family. Smoke signals concept is presented in modern families where fathers abandon their families, leaving their families in hardships. Society should learn to forgive to prevent the occurrence of detrimental consequences of family rivalry.
