The modern organization is experiencing significant encounters that have forced a drastic change in the style of management employed. Henri Payol in 1916 was the first theorist to recognize the numerous functions of the management team in the firm. The primary functions identified include commanding, organizing, planning, commanding, controlling and coordinating. These are depicted to be the traditional responsibilities of the management team. However, due to the continued transformation of the society through technological development these traditional methods of management have experienced significant conflict with the new systems. Technology development has enabled workers in the modern age to carry their objective tasks to the home and in numerous cases are more likely to refrain from going to the workplace a practice known as telecommuting. This practice has been praised by the government particularly in reference to environmental safety as working from home significantly reduces the combustion of oil and amount of GHG emissions into the atmosphere (Lavey-Heaton, 2014). These benefits may extend to the organization including reduced costs in real estate as the company is established on a virtual platform. However, this modern establishment creates a significant trouble for the traditional management practices.

A manager will not be able effectively coordinate workers as each member of the organization works on their own schedule within the 24 hours in a day. This practice does not allow the members of the organization to interact as telecommuters work from their own homes. Many of the workers will rarely meet each other hence creating a collaborative relationship between workers is quite difficult. The Zappos manager identifies his rejection of telecommuting as it creates a divide between workers as he event influences them to exit the company building to exit and enter through a single entrance (Hsich, 2013). Control can also be difficult as workers may reveal information that is sensitive to company performance.
