The Effects of Income Inequalities on Society
The video argues that the gap between the rich and the poor is rising faster in the developed economies of the world such as the US, the UK, and France among others compared to the developing world. It is also argued that while the developed nations have huge gross domestic product figures, such measures are not useful in measuring the wellbeing of their populations (Wilkinson, 2011). The gaps in income between the rich and poor, for example, has resulted in reduced trust levels among society members, reduce child welfare, reduce the involvement of the populace in social development projects and increased prevalence of mental illnesses. Furthermore, the video suggest that wider income gaps between the two categories of social classes results in higher rates of homicide cases, school dropouts, and reduced rates of social mobility.
