Marriage is a union between two people in most cultures and more than two people in other cultures. Different reasons for marriage exist and most of these reasons are culturally different according to the different world cultures. Towards the end of the 19th century, divorces started growing as a result of different factors (Ayoob, 2019). Some of the causes of divorces include; infidelity, poor communication, money, and lack of intimacy. Marriage being a social aspect of life, most people see it as compulsory. Most people believe that marriage is “the right thing” to do. Out of pressure to fit in the society, most people end up being married even without a clear vision or plan for these marriages (De Botton, 2016). “Love” in most cultures determines the fate of marriages whereby one marries one they have this feeling of love for. In other cultures, different factors like money and politics determine the fate of marriages.

In cultures where marriage is a result of love, divorce is caused by the dilution of this love. Arguably, one’s love for someone may decrease when those features you find interesting in a person no longer interest you (De Botton, 2016). For instance, a man who loves his wife for creating time to be with him will find it difficult to continue loving her when the wife gets a job requiring her to travel a lot. Basing this argument from this example, everybody loves someone else for a specific characteristic. Now, those wishing to marry look at these trends of divorce and evaluating causes of these divorces they come at one conclusion that they can do better by loving each other eternally. As a social requirement, everybody feels obliged to marry. This attitude makes everybody overlook this issue of divorces (Ayoob, 2019). The obligation to marry pushes more and more people into marriage. In most cases, even those who have divorced end up marrying again to find a companion even though they know that divorce could still occur.
