In this contemporary societal order, various parents consider that family values are significant since family is a social unit that centers on childrearing by two parents. Dykstra (2018) emphasizes that value denotes to a thing quality as well as worth; therefore family values denotes to “traditional set of social standards defined by the family and history of customs that provide the emotional and physical basis for raising a family.” Moreover, societal morals are frequently strengthened through religious and spiritual views, besides ethnicities (Dykstra, 2018). But, what are the current parenting styles teaching our children about family values? Within this position paper, the basis of how children study family values and significant real-world family values are detailed as the two main points that support the thesis statement.

The Basis of How Children Study Family Values

The first major point is that the basis of how children study family values depends absolutely on what is taught to them by their parents. In each household, the significance of family values is taught to children during family gatherings, which make available the much-needed occasion for entire participants to share their viewpoints, lifestyles, as well as thoughts (Gerson, 2015). Indeed, it is an opportunity that can be used to highlight family values and established customs. The idea is that family values are passed on from cohort to cohort; which inclines towards the viewpoint of in what way the parents’ desire living their household lifestyle. Therefore, the fundamental tasks that include love play and work consist of several activities that have been used by parents to shape and define their family values.

However, the current harsh economy has forced many contemporary to work hard since they have enormously financed their professional development, financial rewards, and even material things (Ontai et al., 2018). Hence, many live an unbalanced lifestyle that has failed to integrate time spent with their children and having cordial relations. Furthermore, it has resulted in many families lives becoming stressful, unsatisfying, besides overwhelming. Traditional family values emphasize that the family should come first, but most contemporary parents have found themselves having insufficient intervals as well as drive to spend with their families. Additionally, common family values take account of such issues as morals, relations with relatives, traditions, religion, communications, marriage, and spending time together (Dykstra, 2018). Hence, the contemporary parenting lifestyle has failed to get a crystal clear depiction of what this implies.

The Significant Real-World Family Values

The second major point is that in this contemporary social order, the realism of having a healthy family originates from developing resilient education systems, religions, as well as communities. These are based on the fact that the nucleus of civilization is the family, and nature's proven link for the humankind essential wants supply. Therefore, for any culture to prosper, the family values should be able to succeed in every household. In the current American society, above fifty percent of all births to females less than thirty years occur outside marriages, along with more than forty percent of birth rates occurring outside wedlock (Ontai et al., 2018). As a consequence, the family structure has crumbled down along with a substantial decrease in family values across generations.

Therefore, the current parenting lifestyles lack the much-needed dedication best practices of passing on to the next generation appropriate traditional family values. Although there could be some awful two parent and fruitful single-parent families; however, most of the time it functions best when the family is made up of a father, mother, and children (Dykstra, 2018). Hence, to practice this, our government and key stakeholders should be effective towards supporting the creation of resilient families that believe and practice the passing on of appropriate traditional family values to the next generation.

An Expected Argument against the View

The unexpected argument against the view is that the current society is not dropping family values, but the only thing concerns family and children mistreatment. For instance, various critiques argue that there are pending unanswered questions regarding what legitimately constitutes family values loss and even changes (Ontai et al., 2018). Furthermore, how any changes in acceptable religion norms could impact on what is believed to be a family; since what matters is love. Because, if a family shares it in a manner that is open and honest, besides equally. Then it does not matter what type of family they are since they have still their unique values (Gerson, 2015). Consequently, family values are those that have a sound and established commitment foundation to the family, along with a sense of single-mindedness towards functioning as a unit.

However, I do respond that the contemporary parenting lifestyle has transformed the traditional approach of passing conventional family values to the next generation. The already worse situation is being worsened by the lack of the much-needed family get-togethers, whereby family values could be shared and passed on to children (Dykstra, 2018). For example, Ontai et al. (2018) argues that many contemporary parents and other family members do not share a meal, since the parents have to eke day-in and day-out twenty-four-seven to meet the family bills and necessities. Additionally, due to globalization and advancement in information technology and communication, everything is being advanced fast. Hence, the emergence of two-paycheck, single, and same-sex parents has declined family values, morals, as well as facilitating ill-fated children. Therefore, it is not the family values loss, but the rigid and increasingly harsh social and economic driving forces that make challenging to live out of those family values.
