Being a physician assistant has been my life-long dream. Most of the memories of my childhood are scenes from medical movies and series. In this manner, I grew up with the desire to be part and parcel of a dedicated medical team. For an extended period, the need to help people with various health complications mesmerized me. However, I had not settled on any one profession in the medical field until my senior high school years. When I made a decision, the designation of a physician felt appropriate for my personality and interests. Therefore, being a physician assistant will be a good start to ensure that I gain as much skill and knowledge as possible to be a competent physician in the coming years.

The value of quality service has driven me for as long as I remember. It is this attribute that has enabled me to cherish aspects such as punctuality, consciousness, accountability, emotional intelligence, positivity and innovativeness (Dill, Pankow, Erikson, & Shipman, 2013). This approach to life issues makes me confident that I will relay my duties as a physician assistant with due diligence. I am convinced that my superiors will have an easy time dealing with me and the other members of the team will be appreciative of my presence in the organization where my services will be required.

I desire to work under the supervision of highly experienced personnel in the field. Competency on the part of superiors is an excellent quality in ensuring that middle-level workers, such as physician assistants, are well groomed to carry out both medical and managerial duties (Ballweg, 2017). A hands-on team exposes one to various experiences and ideas that are crucial in shaping the future of the healthcare sector. This exposure is something I am positive will develop my knowledge in the medical world. I have a plan of working hard once an opportunity to work with people in the field of my expertise arises.

The thought processes that I have experienced with regards to my career as a Physician assistant have helped me to have high confidence in the job. Initially, I harbored thoughts of changing my mind and joining another field since the fear of failure tormented me. However, through the ample guidance of friends and guiding and counseling departments at the medical college, I was able to get over most of my apprehensions (Doan, Sabhaney, Kissoon, Sheps, & Singer, 2011). Therefore, I look forward to working on my best ability to help in making the world a healthier place.

Contrary to popular public opinion, junior staff or students on an internship can have a clear picture of what they want in a given career. This knowledge of the various areas of my responsibility as a physician assistant has helped me to be more assertive in my field of work. I am aware of the fact that both the physician assistants and doctors are responsible for the immediate care of patients (Dill et al., 2013). However, many Physician Assistants are not entirely entrusted to perform medical practices on the patients without the aid or supervision of the primary doctor in charge. This might scenario sound like a setback when viewed superficially. However, it is the articulate teamwork collaboration that leads to saving of patients’ lives.

I am also aware of the various benefits that the job description offers; thus I will be on the forefront to vouch for it. First, the personal assistant does not have to spend too much time studying. Doctors are expected to do a lot of both undergraduate and postgraduate courses plus several years of residency to attain their independence and also gain their licenses which allows them to perform medicinal or surgical practices (Dill et al., 2013). As a Physician Assistant, I am only required to spend half the time doctors spend in schools to be given permits (Ballweg, 2017). Second, a personal assistant is exposed to working in an environment where a higher percentage of work entails the things that drew them in the field in the first place. On the other hand, doctors have the responsibility of working and also caring about factors such as budgetary and bureaucracy. Thirdly, as a personal assistant, I am not tied down in my career as compared to doctors. Doctors are locked in once they get into the profession while I can freelance to other occupations such as obstetrics without having to go back to class (Dill et al., 2013). As a personal assistant am allowed to nurture my abilities to the maximum and it will give me a chance to explore the things that entail my area of expertise. Also, I am in a position to learn about things that were only theoretically mentioned.

I have several hobbies which have contributed a huge deal to my love for working as a personal assistant. For instance, during the long holidays, I visit homes for the elderly, children homes and homes for people living with physical and mental disabilities. During those visits, I assist the staff in conducting constant medical check-ups and feeding the physically disabled persons. This experience has developed my urge to help people and thus makes me want to be part of licensed medical groups. I also worked in a laboratory which is owned by a doctor nearby from where I live which developed my skills in interpretation of lab tests (Doan et al., 2011). The experience there made me learn how to deal with patients under pressure and also gained knowledge on how to diagnose patients’ diseases. At some point, I was part of a non-governmental team which acted as consultants to healthy living. This exposure made me learn a lot about the things a person should do to lead a healthy lifestyle. After the four years of pursuing my degree, it was mandatory for me to join any medical institution to help put the theoretical knowledge I had into practice (Dill et al., 2013). During my internship, I got a chance to work at the city square hospital in conjunction with other skilled physicians and nurses where I was part of high performing team which developed my teamwork skills and ability to work under pressure.

This field of being a physician assistant particularly appeals to me because, in addition to the experience gained from my hobbies as stated above, I have developed many personal and professional skills such as being a team player. I can work flexibly in different work conditions, and I am willing to compromise to be able to assist as much as possible. Helping the sick especially the elderly and physically handicapped has always been my passion and am still effortlessly ready to send positivity to the sick and making sure that I help deal with the illness by partaking the appropriate lab tests and medicinal practices. My communication skills have grown over the years, and I am always willing to listen to every symptom and make sure they are not ignored or overlooked (Ballweg, 2017). I have learned that my attitude toward my job is essential as it plays a crucial role in patients' welfare while in the hospital since lousy attitude can lead into giving wrong diagnose which can even cause deaths. This aspect made me develop a positive attitude and made me always keen to listen to instructions as given to me by my seniors.
