Modern history is an era or timeframe that came after post-classical history. It began in the early 16 th century, which came with significant milestones like the Age of Discovery and Renaissance (Kovarik, 2015). Such milestones were responsible for etching out brilliant minds who worked day in day out to make life a lot easier by critical thinking and making critical decisions to come up with innovations that would later come to be life-changing. Such brilliant minds include the likes of Johaness Gutenberg.
Johaness Gutenberg was printer, goldsmith, and blacksmith from Germany who is well known for introducing print in Europe. The wave of printing revolution in Germany is widely considered as an invention that bore much significance in the second millennium. It was responsible for ushering modern history era in human history. It was a very vital leap in the development of reformation and renaissance period in history. Gutenberg is definitely an influential figure in modern history and he should be greatly honored. His invention of the movable type was groundbreaking, with the combination of elements such as wooden printing and use of oil-based ink, developing them into a more practical system. The system was essential because it allowed for mass production of economically viable books in print for both the readers and manufacturers (Kovarik, 2015).

Furthermore, Kovarik (2015) affirms that the movable type was a huge breakthrough because it marked a significant improvement from the handwritten manuscripts. It was revolutionary because such manuscripts were very cumbersome and tedious to deal with during those ancient times (Biddiscombe, 2002). Consequently, his work and contribution to printing technology rapidly spread through Europe and later to the rest of the world. Apart from his groundbreaking works in printing technology, he is also well-known for the Gutenberg Bible. The Bible was also referred to as the 42-line Bible, which has since acclaimed several awards for its technical quality and high aesthetics.
In the last thirty years, contemporary figures like Bill Gates have made major groundbreaking developments that have greatly influenced our lives today. Just like Gutenberg, Bill Gates has influenced the way we view the world and how we live our lives today and in the last 30 years. Bill Gates is well-known for launching Microsoft. As time passed by, the computer software came to be the world’s largest software firm. His work was influential in the personal computer revolution. Computers are not just a want in today’s society, but they are a need. Computers have made life easier since many of processes today are automated, meaning that they are run by computers (Biddiscombe, 2002).
In conclusion, Bill Gates is in many ways similar to Johaness Gutenberg because both of these individuals have made significant leaps in technology in the contemporary history. Even though their innovations and contributions are dissimilar, they have both made an impact in history in their own unique ways. Were it not for Gutenberg’s moving type technology and Bill Gate’s launching Microsoft, the milestones made in the world of print, graphic design, literature advancements would not have been possible. Thus, it is imperative that they are considered with high regard and forces to reckon with.
