The Monsanto company plants and sales GM seeds in the United States as well as overseas. The company has managed to bypass the negative critiques from concerned individuals and parties over the years and continue to gain more markets globally (Hirschler & Kelland, 2012). Other regular farmers have suffered in the market as their product no longer do well. Some farmers have tried suing the company many times. People have in recent years associated GM products as unhealthy. The company has also faced difficulties penetrating into various markets such as the European market. Due to the mindset of most people regarding the Monsanto products, it has been difficult getting into such markets. Trading Unions and regional trading and business regulations have at certain points put barriers to bar off the company from selling its products. The company is one of the biggest Agricultural based company with which gives it the monopoly over other smaller companies.
Under the government of President Barack Obama, the Monsanto Company gained protection which enables it to plant, distribute and sell GM seeds (Bouchie, 2002). The company has been perceived as an ‘evil’ company over the recent years. The company in the recent days, although has been approved by the U.S. government, still experience a lot of difficulties in trying to convince people of the nature of its products. The GMO seeds are resistant to various pesticides used in farms, which guarantees maximum yield. The GMOs are also known to grow at a very faster rate as compared to the regular seeds. With such qualities, GMO products should be seen to counter serious world issues such as poverty. Various scientific research have shown that GMOs pose particular threats to human health (Jones, 2009). Such research and ideologies have stirred up the negativity towards the GMOs.

The Virtue ethics theory suggests that an individual should be judged or perceived through his character. The theory in deeper analysis teaches that the goal of human life is to obtain happiness or a state of well-being or in simpler terms, to achieve or have a good life. The word virtue refers to an individual's habit or quality which allows that individual to be able to succeed at their purpose. Many philosophers of ancient times such as Aristotle, brought in various ideas have been integrated into the theory to provide a more comprehensive understanding. Virtue can also be seen a moral quality or action which is acceptable to the society. According to the theory, any individual whose actions threatens his or her well-being or that of other people does not possess a good virtue, and his or her habit is considered immoral. The society can, therefore, also judge an individual by looking at his or her character through his actions (Annas, 2009).
The theory can be applied to the case of the Monsanto Company and its operations. In the recent years, the whole world has known and regarded the company as an ‘evil' one. People think that the products of the company are low-quality and unhealthy. There is no threat bigger than that which is perceived to target human health or life. No one wants to put his or her health at risk by consuming the GMO products. Just like the theory suggests, people have perceived the operations of the company as immoral. For this reason, it has been quite a challenge trying to gain more markets for their products. The company must be able to consumers worldwide that its products are safe in order to solve this big problem.
