Monstrous Birth 

Monstrous birth from the historical definition is a birth that renders an animal or a child birthed with defects as monstrous. Medics, however, ascertained that the causative aspects of a deformed fetus were a mother's state of mind or her sexual behavior. Such births were supernaturally and religiously believed to be an omen, a sign of God or moral warnings. The issue of monstrous birth has become of scientific interest since researchers seek to find the cause for these absurd occurrences. Different theories, for instance, the maternal impression theory linked a child’s defects and malformations to her emotions and experiences. 

Body Snatchers 

Body snatchers were men in the grim businesses of exhuming dead bodies for a living. The development and growth of the medical practice in America with a switch from the belief that God was the healer of the sick and not the effects of the medicine created an interest for students, physicians, and also scientists to study anatomy. The need to have cadavers for disassembly during the human body examinations propelled the business of body snatching. It was necessitated by payment of the body snatchers from doctors and medical students for executing the job.

However, with the evident advancements in technology and science, the medical field has gained respect and trust with support from the public. Body snatching was however detested by a huge population at the time. The fact nonetheless, remains that cadaver dissection enabled medics to gain adequate knowledge on the human body that in turn enabled effective and efficient treatment of patients. The disrespect and superstition about the medical field forced doctors to acquire cadavers illegally by either stealing or paying body snatchers to do the job for them. Scarcity of jobs was the common factor that united body snatchers as they did not deliberately choose to do it.
