According to Verstraten, Moonlight is a mass art film because it is based upon all the art principles, which include low production; it exceeds the viewer's expectation. It can quickly strike a chord among the viewers everywhere(Verstraten,2019). In the end, he argues that even though the film is embedded in black culture, it has not been reducing to a political statement when describing some of the myriad issues of the character. Contrarily, he quotes that "viewers with far more privileged backgrounds than the 'boyz n the hood' also empathized with the misfit protagonist" (Verstraten, 2019). In general, the author reveals his complexity of identity by inviting the viewers to connect with his ideologies.
