The 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) caused a sudden need for supplementary healthcare professionals throughout the world. Healthcare industry identified nurses that had just graduated to serve as junior nurses to serve in COVID units to mitigate the looming shortage of healthcare workers .in health facilities. Now new graduate nurses are part of the frontline healthcare workers that combat the pandemic. In this era of the COVID pandemic, my clinical experience in COVID in medical and surgery units has been interesting as a newly registered nurse. The facility I have been attached to assigned me responsibility to take care of patients with the dreadful disease. I have been grateful for early experience as licensed vocational nurse (LVN) as it built my confidence to care for the patients with a virus I have never encountered throughout my nursing training. Now my facility has provided me with guidelines on how to take precaution and I am now handling the patients without any fear of contacting the infection. Recently, a stranger thanked me as I walk away from my assigned unit. He reveled to me I took care of his son, who was one of my patients till he got cured. I felt this moment is a great moment in my life as a nurse as I am making tremendous difference in people’s lives during this historical time in life. My sad experience is that patients must incur personal costs for clinical management of the disease. Some people cannot afford to meet the medical bills that come forth with the clinical management of the COVID-19. They get frustrated and slip into the state of despondency. I would wish that government cushions citizens from the awful experience by funding their insurance covers.
