COVID-19 is a viral infection that mainly affects the lungs causing difficulties in breathing. Since its discovery last year, it has led to significant deaths and infections all around the world. I believe contracting COVID-19 will affect my life to a greater extent. So many things will change. With the entire stigma associated with patients suffering from the disease, I feel my attitude towards life and people will generally change. Just like other patients, I will lose a sense of belonging. My self-esteem will go down. I will consider myself weak and hopeless because that's what the disease does to you. The close interaction with my family that I once enjoyed will be taken away from me, hopefully for only a while. In a less severe case, maybe my family will set aside a 'sick room' and keep me there always. I will no longer share meals openly and freely with my siblings. Even traveling together will cause harm to my younger siblings. I will spend most of the time at home or in hospital and, as such will, have to give up all the fun activities I always enjoy doing. In short, I will be miserable and devastated. Maybe I will lose touch with the neighbors because everyone is afraid of coming in contact with an infected person. I won’t be able to visit my friends like I used to. I might start using technology more to connect with them. COVID-19 takes a lot from a person. I know I will feel excluded and discriminated most of the time. I will probably end up losing the job I have right now because of the stigma associated with it. The disease will make me learn to get used to drugs and prescribed medication for a while.
In conclusion, COVD-19 completely changes the social and economic life of people who contract it. These effects make it one of the most dreaded diseases ever known to man, coupled with the fact that it has no cure.
