The society currently lives in the real world full of instant information, which is either good or bad. The more the culture becomes technically progressive, the further the people begin to depend on computers, as well as other forms of equipment for their day to day life. What this means is that in case a computer crashes or a machine breaks, individuals become almost incapacitated until the problem is fixed. Such form of reliance on technology subjects people to a distinct disadvantage since they become less independent. Great discoveries, dependency, less value in human staff in all new media and industries, together with cost effectiveness are all as an effect of these simple implements.

Technology plays a vital role in the new media of the modern world of today. More to that is that there are pros and cons to this. An advantage of the new technology is that it keeps us updated with all the current affairs (Steele, 2009). This is so because information becomes easily available especially with the internet and message alerts on their mobile devices.

New technologies also have their sets of drawbacks. Key among the challenges is that people depend so much on technologies such as cell phones such that they stop to explore their natural creative abilities. A mobile device is like clothes which we put on in the morning, and take off in the evening. Hence “The convergence of new methods of communication with new technologies shifts the model of mass communication, and radically reshapes the ways we interact and communicate with one another”. Majority of the equipment termed as "new media" are digital, and in some cases, they can be easily manipulated.

Advancement in technology give people a more simple and efficient way of doing things and come up with great results. For instance, education has been greatly improved with the advancements in computers (Steele, 2009).. This has made it possible for students to learn at a global scale without exiting from their classrooms, and it also makes learning enjoyable.

How Does the Concept of the Intercultural Impact of New Media

New media has brought the society into a very complex and highly interconnected level. In most instances, new media poses a challenge to human communication in the traditional sense. Thus, new media not only impacted the content and form of information, but it also has an effect on how people understand one another as they communicate, particularly people from diverse ethnic and cultural groups (Chen 2012). Nonetheless, new media has been able to link the gaps between various ethnic and cultural groups. Cultural gaps have made it difficult for communication, among individuals of a similar culture, and between generations.

The restructuring or rearrangements of cultural patterns, demands that people of a certain culture have to realign their communication behaviors of their own community, and adopt new ways of interrelating with people from other existing cultures.

In totality, new media promotes a new culture, where the degree of uncertainty and ambiguity has reached its highest point, most specifically in the process of intercultural communication. This enables people from different cultures to achieve the goals of mutual understanding.
