The US military is one of the most advanced in the world today. Every year, the US spends billions of dollars for the training of its military personnel in readiness to respond rapidly and effectively to any dangers. Thousands of American troops are deployed every year to fight terrorism and to collaborate with allies in preparation for future uncertainties. Therefore, the policy that guides the deployment of the military is integral to the efficiency of the US military. For a long time, there has been an unfair deployment with some of the military personnel being sent to various missions more often than others. In response to the challenge, the US Defense Secretary, James Mattis, came up with a new policy that seeks to put an end to the problem. The new policy stipulates that military personnel who are non-deployable for more than one year should not be allowed to serve in the military 1 . Only those who were injured while on service or training are given special status to remain in the military.

However, this policy has its advantages as well as drawbacks. One of the benefits of the policy is that it brings fairness in service. Indeed, it is unfair for some people in the military to perform more duties than others. It is only rational that all military personnel are deployed equitably at all times. The danger of overworking a few individuals is imminent as it impairs the readiness of the military to respond quickly to threats due to fatigue. On the contrary, this policy does not protect military personnel who develop chronic illnesses while in service and only safeguards those who are injured while in training or service. To this end, it would be unfair and irrational to sack a person just because he or she developed a condition that is beyond his control. This policy will also have a more significant impact on future deployment policies as it will ensure equitable deployment of the military personnel. In addition, military personnel will not be allowed to remain in the service if they cannot be deployable for more than one year.
