Northrop Grumman Corporation is a universal defense technology firm based in America. The company ranked fifth on the list of defense contractors globally. Northrop Grumman is made up of three sub-branches i.e. aerospace system, electronic system and mission system. It is a big company with thousands of employees and revenue of about 24 billion dollars annually. Its headquarters are in West Fall Church, Virginia. The company is rated among the top ten military-friendly employers. Northrop Grumman (2014) Its Aerospace system is based in California, Redondo Beach and manufacturer air facts, spacecraft and microelectronics for various nations, US included. This sub-branch is contracted by the US government to create a weapon that is used in the military. Northrop Grumman forms the basis of this essay since it based on the locality and therefore suitable for this assignment. On 15 th October 2015, the Northrop Grumman conducted a groundbreaking ceremony to open a public-private UAS Innovation in Grand Fork, North Dakota. This was a major decision made by the company. According to Hageman (2015), the news of this decision was not astonishing since the company made signs to venture in this area. Northrop Grumman three-phase created office building and a large building with large floors basically for housing aircraft. Northrop Grumman’s lease took up 10 acres. The company conducts research, development, flight test and minor manufacturing.

There is much ethical implication associated with the construction of office building and a hangar. According to Jewett (2016), construction of the facility which cost 10 million dollars created employment for many people in the various department i.e. research, training, manufacturing etc. Therefore; it goes without saying that this venture literally reduced the rate of unemployment in Grand Fork, North Dakota. By becoming a tenant of Grand sky aviation there was the creation of revenue for local authority of Grand Fork, North Dakota, the rent paid by this company comes in handy in the development of the economy of this locality. The Northrop Grumman through conducting minor manufacturing of airplane parts has led to coming up of many other related businesses, for instance, it has resulted in creation of raw material companies in Grand Fork, therefore; creating more and more and more employment and more revenue resulting to a tremendous growth in the economy of this locality. The construction of offices has a positive implication since businesses have a place to rent and conduct their business. The fact that such a large renowned corporation ventured in Grand Fork, North Dakota creates a very positive image for this specific locality, therefore; more and more businesses will want to come and base their businesses in this place having in mind that Northrop Grumman has been successful in this locality. This will ultimately improve the economy of this locality. Northrop Grumman created a training center, this provides an opportunity for local people especially those who are youthful to get an opportunity to get training about aircraft and aerospace without necessarily having to travel to far distance.

According to Mark (2015), Northrop Grumman the decision to set up a branch in Grand Fork, North Dakota was a wise one. The positive implication as seen above had the company make the decision to open its branch here. Northrop Grumman records from 2014 hold the company has had many successful corporate social responsibility initiatives, in 2014 Northrop Grumman brought down greenhouse gas intensity by 26.2% (Northrop Grumman, 2014). The company invested about 15.9 million dollars to fund global STEM education making a big impact on students and on their teachers in Grand Fork, North Dakota. Northrop Grumman’s procurement spending of about 32% was directed majorly to women and too small enterprises. The company spent a lot of money on training their employees to comply with ethic. The company has empowered many in terms of education with most of its major spending going towards improving the education state in Grand Fork, North Dakota. The company has a foundation that has done tremendously in terms of providing financial help to poor and marginalized people in society and in the world in general.

Corporate social responsibility has been very fundamental in Northrop Grumman Company. Due to its various corporate social responsibility programs the company has been able to retain its contractors who are mainly military companies. Seeing that the company is making effort to impact the communities around North Dakota positively, the company enjoys high approval ratings with its customers all across the world, who therefore remain loyal to it. The company has also been able to retain its employees, the employees of Northrop Grumman Company have the motivation to work hard and stay loyal to this company since it has a good course for the society. The company has spent a tremendous amount of money on environment protection, this has in a big way improved the way the society view the company.

Northrop Grumman needs to employ critical thinking in its application of cooperate social responsibility. The company requires thinking critically in order to make a decision on the objective of the corporate social responsibility. It is not wise for the company to just go ahead and tackle all problems related to corporate social responsibility. Considerations like, should the company minimize the environment impact on its operation or give incentives to its workforce to motivate them to volunteer in charity work should come in mind. Whatever corporate social responsibility Northrop Grumman decide on venturing into should be based on critical thinking. The mission and vision of the company should form the basis of deciding what corporate social responsibility projects to engage in. Successful CSR programs need the company to make critical thinking about the methods. In order for the objective to be met a strategy should be created, this strategy should make use of the materials on hand to ensure that CSR is relevant and meets the intended objective. A successful CSR project is one that fully includes the employees, the company needs to convince the workforce that the CSR projects are genuine and not publicity stunts to boost profits. Northrop Company needs to be able to think critically and come up with an ideal reason why they are participating in CSR, by having a solid reason the company will be able to convince the workforce and the business community that their intentions are genuine.

In conclusion, Northrop Grumman requires to make consideration while deciding to, make a business decision, such as opening a hangar or conducting research, once the decision is made putting into consideration the ethical implications associated with the decision the company should forge forward and carry out the plan. CSR is important for the company and critical thinking should be applied in making this decision.
