A Nurse Practitioner is a nurse who has graduated with advanced practice in nursing. Nurse Practitioners perform varied roles which include taking patient’s history, medical examination, order tests from the lab and are also involved in the prescription of drugs. The increase in demand for health care services has led the American people to turn to Nurse Practitioners for their health care needs. On the other hand, they are restricted in executing a certain operation such as ordering home care nursing services, ordering of medical equipment and performance of specialized treatment in the absence of a physician.

In conclusion, it can be noted that demand for the services provided by Nurse Practitioners is on the rise because they provide excellent services in relation to the numerous health care needs. It is therefore prudent for the government to enact reforms that are geared towards the scope of the operation of the Nurse Practitioners in delivering safe and quality services.
