Caring is an essential part of nursing for health experts since it is an essential part of the healing process. Ideally, without the aspect of caring, nursing would be incomplete. Caring refers to the act of showing empathy and concern for others. In addition, it can denote the act of having compassion. On the other hand, professional identity means a self-perception that is influenced by norms, values, and characteristics of the nursing professional that results in the person acting, feeling, and thinking like a nurse (American Nurses Association, 2015). Professional organizations in nursing refer to associations that are devoted to the personal and professional development of members as well as the overall growth of the profession.

I understand caring from a broad perspective. For instance, with regards to self, I believe that one has to exercise self-care before reaching out to care for patients. Self-care is an essential step towards caring for others. Learning to care for oneself makes it easy for the individual to care for others (Catalano, 2015). Importantly, I am cognizant of the fact that care in nursing encompasses a practitioner establishing a unique and positive relationship with patients as the primary providers of care. In this respect, a nurse ought to put into consideration the patients’ life experiences to offer appropriate care.

Regarding the environment, care entails providing patients with safe surroundings that protect them from harm or injury. Indeed, caring encompasses creating a safe environment for patients that is free of hazards, stressors, and pathogens. In addition, in professional terms, care means having the right set of skills to administer standard medical services to patients. Having the right set of skills enables one to offer services much to the satisfaction and quick recovery of patients (Catalano, 2015). I also strive to create a safe psychological environment for my patients' speedy healing.

Notably, as a nurse, I must be willing to sacrifice any material thing to save lives in any part of the world. In essence, life comes before material things and therefore every life matters irrespective of one’s social class, race, religion, educational status, political affiliations, among others. In addition, I uphold integrity, transparency, and honesty as my values. Masters (2018) contends that h aving integrity enables an individual to serve his or her patients better and offer services that meet professional standards. I do not engage in corrupt activities or compromise with my professional regulations for any reason. Regarding transparency, I conduct my actions openly by following the laid down rules. My engagement with patients remains open all the time and I ensure that I keep the necessary people informed regarding my professional activities.

Similarly, in pursuing honesty, I speak the truth always, even when it is most unfavorable. I do not lie to my patients, even when I know the information that I am sharing would cause pain. In addition, I say the truth concerning situations I can manage and those that I cannot. My main motive is to alleviate human suffering using my nursing skills. In my line of duty, I have participated in several surgical procedures, but the most notable one was successful brain surgery, and I still keep in touch with the patient. Nursing practitioners ought to remain honest with their patients in all situations (Catalano, 2015). I was also among the team that traveled to Liberia in Africa to help contain the outbreak of Ebola. The situation was tense as I was not sure whether I would have managed to make it safely.

I plan to work for the American Psychological Association during my nursing career. I have been dealing with professional counseling, and I believe getting an opportunity in the organization will enable me to share my expertise and make the world a better place. I am confident that my extensive knowledge and experience in patient counseling will help me establish better approaches to offering counseling services. Counseling has become an essential aspect of the nursing practice in the modern-day world ( Cruess, Cruess & Steinert, 2016). I am strongly convinced that the organization will give me a platform upon which I can publish my articles on my experiences in providing counseling services. I look forward to interacting with experienced experts in the field of counseling with an international scope for personal development.

In conclusion, caring is an essential element of nursing that every practitioner ought to understand and exercise. Importantly, caring helps to establish a strong nurse-patient relationship that enhances the healing process. Moreover, care ensures that the practitioner protects the patient from dangers in the environment that may cause harm or complicate the healing process. A nursing practitioner ought to put life before material gains and should have no reservations in offering nursing services. Noteworthy, honesty, integrity, and transparency have enabled me to provide quality nursing services to my patients at all times. In this regard, working with the American Psychological Association will allow me to share my experiences and knowledge with professionals in the organization. The organization will also help me gain insights into the field of counseling.
