The Nursing Code of Ethics can be described as published standards for nurses to follow with intentions of advocating and protecting the human rights and social justice for their patients (Arndt, 2009). The first subsection of the first provision is created on the principle that all the nursing practices must respect human dignity and be an active participant in the provision of leadership in the enhancement of health policies and assisting in fighting for the right of universal healthcare (ANA, 2015). This essential principle is vital because it maintains the dignity of the patients and promotes their well-being irrespective of the situation that they are in with their health status. It also provides hope and optimum healthcare to the patients.

At a public health rotation, I was at a daycare facility for preschoolers for low-income facilities. Sometimes, I would help the administrator for that site to ensure that all the children had updated medical records. I remember receiving calls from families having trouble getting in contact with their medical offices or frustration with unreliable staff at their medical centers. Because some of these families are busy with their work, I would assist in contacting the medical centers to make an update of their medical records. I feel that I was able to experience firsthand being a public health advocate because I would regularly make a follow up on the various centers for medical facilities and ensure the medical records were in place. I feel that working in that position made me promote the client's well-being and health. In this scenario, I failed to make follow-ups, but because the medical records of a child are vital to the comprehensive care program of any medical facility and the eligibility of the child, I knew that I was tasked towards pushing for the completion of the records (Hustom 2010).
