Part 1

In nursing education, the transition of the contemporary society to a technology-based institution has greatly contributed to a change into more wired experiences. Technology has revolutionized the medical industry by influencing how skills and knowledge are gained from nursing institutions ( In Houston et al., 2015 ). The changing environment of the modern world has led to the development of advanced learning strategies for purposes of upgrading educational aptitudes and improving service delivery.

During my pre-licensure years, I was not able to use electronic portfolios because they had not been introduced in the school yet. Consequently, I was not able to demonstrate the growth I had achieved by reflecting on my experience during the learning process. Systems such as iWebfolio, Digication, Myspace and TaskStream were not available during our course of study.

Virtual reality tools are very efficient because they expose a nurse to experience greater simulations in an immersive environment ( McGonigle & Mastrian, 2018 ). Students using this tool are able to integrate the components of a real and virtual world scenario on avatar patients. This provides an opportunity for nurses to be equipped with the knowledge of how, why and when to apply specific skills in a clinical setting. This gives nurses a chance to try new ideas, practice their skills and learn from their past mistakes. I would strongly recommend for the tool to incorporate a broader platform that would be able to recommend the best course of action for a particular medical situation.

Part 2

This class will enable me to possess a greater comprehension of clinical knowledge by using technology-based tools to improve my service delivery skills. For instance, before the class, I would have made use of traditional methods of evaluating clinical scenarios such as case studies from books and other sources to expand my knowledge in areas that I am not well articulated. The class has, however, changed my perspective on service delivery. My new approach would be based on using virtual reality-assisted clinical trials to develop my skills as a nurse and explore all my weaknesses.

The speaker in this video is a subject matter expert who integrates clinical information systems who gives her advice to a particular problem in the clinical setting. She notes that all the information in nursing must be applied in an effective manner to ensure operations run smoothly. According to her, informatics is a real growth field that is still transitioning with the changing environment.

For this particular class, I think that everything was interesting and well-articulated to meet the learning objectives. Up to this point, there is nothing that I would change about the class because I am contented with the exploration into nursing informatics.
