Evidence based practice (EBP) can be defined as a thorough problem solving approach that involves the incorporation of clinical expertise, evidence from research as well as the needs of patients which includes their preferences as well as values so as to produce the most desirable health outcomes. Furthermore, EBP is very important in nursing practice as it helps in producing quality healthcare, since nurses are able to make decisions concerning the appropriate care that a patient needs. Even more, as a result of evidence based practice, nurses are able to do away with some of approaches that have become outdated and rather implement new approaches based on the evidences thus providing efficient health care to patients. This is because EBP helps in making healthcare more standard since high quality care is aided by evidence (Schmidt & Brown, 2017).

A nurse educator has the main responsibility of teaching nursing students concerning EBP and its importance in the field. Therefore, a nurse educator can incorporate EBP into the teaching strategies by employing the use of structured queries during lectures as well as using interactive measures such as organizing for small group works, presentations and workshops too so as to develop their skills more practically. To add, conducting clinical practicum projects and research assignments helps in making the learning of EBP more natural and simple thereby helping the nursing students to gain quality skills. These approaches of teaching EBP will without a doubt impact on the learners’ attitudes in relation to research being a major thing in EBP (LoBiondo-Wood & Haber, 2017).

Moreover, as a nurse educator, the top priority role is to mentor the student learners by guiding them on research using the EBP. This is because through mentorship, a nurse educator is able to advise the students and also identify their weaknesses and strengths and use the appropriate teaching strategies to address each. Despite the many roles of a nurse educator which includes designing curricula and developing courses, mentorship is very important since it even molds future leaders in the nursing sector because they have a role model to look up to.
