The Nurse Manager Leadership Inventory is a tool that is used by organizational leaders and managers to assess their areas of strengths and weaknesses. From their scores, the leaders can evaluate the areas that need further development. With constantly changing healthcare environment nursing leaders ought to constantly try to acquire new skills as well as improve existing ones in order to ensure that they run their organizations effectively. In this paper, I will reflect upon my strengths and weaknesses as identified in the Nursing Manager Skills Inventory. More specifically, the paper reflects upon my personal and professional accountability, career planning, personal journey disciplines, and reflective practice reference behaviors or tenets.
I have proven to be a strong leader in each of the core dimensions of personal and professional accountability. Based on my results, I am quite competent when it comes to development and growth. My ethical behavior rated at a competent level, which demonstrates good ethical behaviors and practice. This shows that I am very conversant with the nursing ethical code of conduct (Ewoh, 2013). I also uphold integrity and honesty in my day-to-day operations. When it comes to certification, which is one of the core dimensions of accountability, I am a certified registered nurse with a license. Since we live in competitive world, I have to work on my career to ensure that I advance my career and remain competent.

In the section of career planning, I am certainly on the right track, but I need to improve a lot. I have been average when it comes to professional planning. I am certified and registered nurse and was employed immediately after graduating due to the high demand for nurses in the United States. Since then, I have worked as a nursing professional, and I have gained vast experience in this field. At the health care facility I am currently employed, I have been promoted to a supervisory role for the commendable nursing job I have been doing. To advance my career, I am planning to pursue a post-graduate degree in nursing. After pursuing this course and gain relevant work experience, I would be able to be competitive and land my dream job in the nursing profession.
Under the area of personal journey disciplines, I was able to demonstrate the key competencies. My score was above average, and this is due to the work-ethic values inculcated in me which are competency, flexibility in learning, professionalism, and accountability (Ewoh, 2013). I usually find it very difficult to offer shared leadership and council management. To add to this, I happen to be more autocratic in decision making which is a negative thing, especially when it comes to being a nursing leader. Thus, I need to improve in this field. I have to embrace diversity in opinions by ensuring that I offer participatory leadership with my co-workers or leaders.
Under the area of reflective practice reference behavior/tenets, I consider myself as being competent. I highly value honesty and integrity as well as tolerate and accept diverse beliefs and practices. I am an open-minded person that does not tolerate any form of discrimination when it comes to decision making or giving services. My real potential and talents lie in critical thinking, which has enabled me to solve complicated issues in my current healthcare facility. I am passionate about my nursing profession, and I am ever committed to the organizational goals of my health care facility which I believe are key elements in meeting the goals of the organization.
Just like other industries, the health care industry required skilled and knowledgeable management. In order to ensure that their facilities are operated effectively and professionally, health care providers employ skilled leaders. Nursing managers are required to shape the workplace environment and display their leadership skills by leading their team. As a nurse leader, I will use my leadership skills to lead and manage my team to deliver quality health care services in my health care facility. I will apply my skills, train properly the nursing personnel, perfect relation to top management team, and reward outstanding nurses in order to motivate and advocate for change in the workplace.
In order to advocate for change in my current health care facility, I would assure the unity in diversity factor as a key leadership skill. Unity in the workplace environment aligns the employees to the organizational goals. It also leads to self- and job satisfaction, which ensures the workforce is more dedicated towards achieving organizational goals. As a nurse leader, it is vital to adapt to the changing workplace environment, and aid co-workers or leaders fit in those changes too.
Leadership skills that are inevitably fruitful for any health care facility and the personal development see no limits. As a nurse, who is aspiring to gain vast experience in the nursing profession, I feel like a learner each day, and I always work towards improving my leadership skills. I will achieve this by ensuring that I maintain the inquisitiveness to learn more. In my course of learning, I will accept new challenges as well as take up new projects.
Conclusion
Based on the evaluation, it is evident that I have the skills, which are vital to lead or manage a health care facility or nursing team. This is because, as a certified and registered nurse, I demonstrate self-awareness, social awareness, self-management, and relationship management. These are some of the core dimensions that a nurse ought to possess in order to be effective and competent in the profession. This is because these core dimensions interact to create a holistic person, defined by charisma and social networks.
