Ever since I joined the nursing field, several questions have since been running in my head. Are nursing theories necessary? And if they are, why have so many of them which bring about confusion? Does it mean that there are instances where some theories are more important than others? Following the many questions that I had concerning nursing theories, I opted to do more research on the same. I realized that the theories are indeed significant in guiding nursing knowledge development and directing education, research, and practice. I have come across many theories, but the middle range theory caught my attention. Throughout the articles that I read, I realized that many nursing practitioners recognize and advocate for the middle range nursing theory because of its functional uniqueness. And when I was watching the theorist videos, the middle range theorist's video caught my attention because it focuses on a theory that I have always yearned to have more knowledge about it. The first impression on this theory is that it lies between the grand and practice theories with relatively fewer concepts than the other theories; hence it is easily understood.
From this theorist video, I have come into an agreement with my own perceptions about theories. I have learned that theories are supposed to be fundamental to scientific comprehension since they express an understanding that hides behind the practice patterns and clarifies them just as the theorist has elaborated it. This functionality of theories permits people to perceive associations among different phenomena that would otherwise appear detached. Besides, I now agree with the theorist that theories play a significant role in helping nurses to create effective interventions ("NURS 500," n.d.). This is because the theories articulate something about the underlying causes or constitution of the phenomenon intended to be prevented or promoted. Thus, my perceptions are in agreement with the theorist. Truly, an understanding of what a given theory notifies concerning how things operate and the way they would be clinically valuable is vital in nursing discipline and its associates such as nurse scholars, clinical nurses and other healthcare providers ("NURS 500," n.d.).

The video contains information that seems quite a surprise to me. I had no idea that the nursing field acknowledges the middle range theory as a theory that is readily operationalized and easily applied in a clinical environment and practice. I was surprised that the theory incorporates literature review, guidelines and standards, practice, taxonomies, research, and different disciplines during their development ("NURS 500," n.d.). Meaning the middle range theories are extensive in nature and that their ideas and concepts are almost 100 percent valid and reliable in nursing practice. Moreover, I did not know that the middle range theories are designed to address important topics that are meant to solve relentless problems ("NURS 500," n.d.).
I would greatly recommend this video to another student, especially to a student who has a self-drive towards making any contribution to the nursing field. I would propose the student to choose a nursing conceptual model of his or her interest and attempt to develop a middle-range theory from that conceptual model. This way, the student will also make contributions to the survival and progression of the nursing discipline (Risjord, 2019). In fact, there are many conceptual models that students can choose from as he or she begins the journey towards middle range theory advancement.
Watching the video has helped me to realize that every individual has an opportunity to add to the improvement of the nursing field. Initially, I thought that only nurse scholars create nursing conceptual models and theories, but the video has helped me to recognize the value of unique nursing facts and their application (Wayne, 2020). With this knowledge, I look forward to contributing positively to the enhancement of the nursing discipline.
