Effective communication is crucial for the success and development of any organization. It is through communication that managers and employees can perform their assigned tasks. However, there are many obstacles to effective communication that are faced by managers. The main obstacle is perceptual differences, which emerges when people have diverging opinions over a given issue (Zaineb, 2016). Divergent views can interfere with the effectiveness of communication in the workplace. The second major obstacle is an emotional barrier, which can lead to fear and mistrusts, including unnecessary conflicts. A manager who cannot control their emotions cannot effectively communicate with colleagues and his juniors. The thirds major obstacle is cultural differences. Cultural differences are likely to cause misunderstandings. Therefore, managers face many obstacles that can lead to infective communication.
I remember a day when my job became difficult due to the manager's poor communication. The organization was conducting employee performance appraisal, and I was tasked with the responsibility of overseeing the process. I suggest to my manager that employees should actively be involved in the performance appraisal process. On the contrary, maintained that the management must undertake the process without involving employees and denied me the opportunity to explain my point of view. Hence, the miscommunication emerged because the manager was not ready to listen to the divergent opinion. Therefore, the negative impact could have been avoided if the managers embraced my idea and be ready to listen to the reasons for my suggestion.

The language barrier is a common communication obstacle that is faced by many people on a global scale. It is caused by the use of impropriate word or jargon. At the same time, the language barrier is caused by the inability to understand a given foreign language ( Babatunde, 2013) . The obstacle can be addressed by using an international language that is understood by all parties to the communication. Cultural barriers are also common communication obstacles that are common on the global scale. The obstacle can be overcome by learning about other people’s culture to increase cultural competence.
