Historical perspective

Initially, occupational health’s history can be traced from the Ancient Greece times when physician-aided studies by the father of medicine, i.e., Hippocratic Oath, spearheaded the research on how harmful mining was at the time. Later on, occupational health was formulated and fostered in Ontario immediately after the British Factory Act in the mid-17 th Century. Occupational health has evolved over all these years up to the modern world seeing an increase in the professional health standards (Fusion Occupational Health, 2017).

Demographic trends in the occupational health sector

To meet the necessary professional health legal working prerequisites, some trends have been taken into effect forcing other directions mostly the traditional trends to exit the market due to competition. Occupational health organizations have had to deal with patterns like the advancements in technology and the required health standards to be observed by the workers as well ( Scrope, Barrnet, & Gore, 2012, P. 471 ). Technology has been significantly advancing on a day to day basis. Consequently, new technological advancements have been improvised in workplaces like new machines; hence everyone has to be up to date on how to operate the machines.

Skills and Competencies

To deal with technological advancements, one has to keep themselves up to date with the latest sub-standards and their requirements. It is vital in the health sector to ensure that skills are completely utilized where possible to help tackle any current issues and concerns. These skills and competencies include strategic planning, client growth support, coordination, self-growth, team empowerment, duty fulfillment and creativity.

Federal State Regulations are affecting Occupational health.

The Occupation Safety and the act was a regulation set by legal authorities that guide employers on how to ensure that the workplace for their employees is workable and feasible ( Scrope, Barrnet, & Gore, 2012, P. 472 ). The Act (OSHA) was put in place back in the 1970s. It is quite unscrupulous and dishonest for employers to leave employees struggle with unpleasant conditions while in their workplaces ( Federal Laws and Regulations Affecting Farm Safety ).

Multidisciplinary approach Occupational Health Issues

The same government that abolishes laws responsible for the normal functioning of professional workplaces should ensure that the culprits who are found to have coveted the regulations and do not comply with their requirements are brought to book ( Federal Laws and Regulations Affecting Farm Safety ).
