Leadership is a practical skill associated with the person entrusted to lead or guide other people and the entire organization. Also, it is the ability to motivate and influence a group of people towards a common purpose, by giving directions and strategy to achieve the set goals. In addition, as Puchner (2017) noted, it is the art of setting goals, taking decisive actions to direct and control an institution or a company while providing necessary information to achieve the set targets. Leadership will involve working closely with all team members and stakeholders to arrive at a unanimous decision. Leadership, therefore, is the whole process of coming up with ideas, communicate the ideas to others and engage other people to act and follow his or her direction.

In reference to the poem, the point where Odyssey assembled all his crew and spoke to them by giving them directions to remain behind while he goes ahead with his crew on reconnaissance exhibits leadership. Odyssey shows his leadership as a brave leader who is determined to face the enemy at all cost. He and the selected crew choose to go and spy the enemy when they least expected. He is able to influence his team of crew members to raid the city after they had feasted on meat and sweet wine. Odyssey shows that he is well organized in his leadership goals (Puchner, Akbari, Denecke & Fuchs, 2014). He knows how and when to plan the attack during the dark hours when the enemy least expects. His crew members were well loaded in big jars, clear indication that they were well armed to ransack the sacred city. Therefore, courage, clear set plans, and creativity are some of the leadership traits of Odyssey.

Odyssey ordered his crew to get on deck and cast off. It is clear that Odyssey has the ability to influence his team members who do not defy his orders no matter how risky it would turn out to be (Puchner et al., 2014). Odyssey was determined to win this war and to face every dreadful event to confront the enemy who seems to have no sense of right or wrong. Therefore, he is a leader who is determined to achieve what he wants.
