Before watching the debate, I believed that college education was not worth the price tag. My skepticism originated from the rising numbers of student debts. I was concerned that most students did not acquire the vital knowledge and skills that would enable them to be successful. Besides, successful people like Elon Musk advocated against the need to enroll on college education. I believed that modern technologies like YouTube could enable young people to learn vital skills without spending so much on education.
After watching the video, I discovered that a college education is worth the fee. Margaret Hoover challenged my beliefs by giving an example of Steve Jobs, who had not finished college before developing Apple Inc. She stated Jobs eventually enrolled on a course that changed his perspective of interior design. Besides, Margaret reiterated that very few people who do not finish college education become successful later in life (Public Broadcasting Service, 2016). Another point she made was that college education presents students with an opportunity to earn high incomes throughout their lives. As a result, they can pay their student loans at a later time. An example is President Barrack Obama, who paid his student debt while in Senate (Public Broadcasting Service, 2016). After listening to Margaret’s insights, I discovered that college education is manageable and impactful and worth the price tag.

The debaters who opposed the need for a college education should have provided real-life examples and facts. For example, they were unaware of the most pursued college major (Public Broadcasting Service, 2016). It was evident that they had not researched the topic well. Most of their arguments relied on assumptions. They did not provide adequate examples of personalities who had not completed college education and became successful. The opposing team should have included a comprehensive perspective. For instance, they could have provided facts about college education’s insignificance among students from different states. Since they failed to incorporate these points, their arguments lacked objectivity.
