One learns that Mary, through her song, fulfills the Old Testament prophesy of a virgin birth. God says, “Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Emmanuel” (Isaiah 7:14 NKJV). Zephaniah says, “O Israel, be glad and rejoice……even the Lord is in the midst of you” (Zephaniah 3:14-15). The virgin birth represents the woman’s ability to resist the devil. It also ensured that the lineage of David ascended to the throne through Mary who came from the lineage of David and the tribe of Judah. God promised David that there shall not lack a person from David’s lineage sitting on the throne of Israel (1 Kings2:4 NKJV).
Through Mary, the human race became sons and heirs to the spiritual blessings of Abraham. She gives an example of Abraham as a fulfillment of Gods promises that he spoke to him and his descendants forever (Luke1:55 NKJV). Mary speaks of Gods Mercy which is upon them that fear him from Generation to generation (Luke 1:50). There are many similarities between Mary and Abraham. God promised to make Abraham exceedingly fruitful, to make his descendants as the dust of the earth and stars of the sky and Kings shall come from him (Genesis 17”6, Genesis 13:16, Genesis 15:5 NKJV). Mary Just like Abraham is a source of blessing whereby all the earth becomes blessed (Genesis 22:18 NKJV). She finds favor in the eyes of God through her faith. She alludes to this when she says, “Blessed is she that believed” (Luke 1:45). Her obedience to the word of God brings salvation to the human race.

Mary represents the second Eve who is meant to act as a bridge between God and the human race. The birth of Jesus was a Holy birth which gave the woman the responsibility of carrying Jesus, who has been referred to as part of the God trinity in the bible. Prophet Nathan prophesies that the mercy of God shall not depart from Jesus, the way it happened to Saul (2Samuel7:15). During the Olden days, the spirit of God could come upon people and depart when the person sinned. However, with the New Testament Christians who are born again are baptized in the Holy Spirit. Once the spirit fills them like the twelve apostles in the upper room, they are able to comprehend and speak in tongues, therefore breaking the curse of different tribes that fell on man at the tower of Babel. This Spirit of the son Jesus was poured into our hearts and calls directly to the father saying,” Abba, father” (Galatians 4:6). The original sin which separated the human race from God was dealt with through Mary.
Mary is instrumental in redeeming the female race from condemnation of the first sin. The woman has always been blamed for the fall of Adam. The human race became the children of bondage through the inherited curses from Adam and Eve. Mary is however rejoicing as the favored one (Luke 1:47). Zephaniah says, “Sing, O daughter of Zion… the Lord has taken away your Judgements” (Zephaniah 3:14-15). Through Mary, the human race is no longer servants or slaves of the Law; rather they become the sons and daughters of Grace .
Mary’s song reminds me of the difficult times that I have faced while looking for decent employment and praying for financial blessings, when everyone seems to doubt whether Gods promises will ever come to pass in my life. I would reinvent Mary’s song into Gods promises are forever solid and true. Despite the waiting, prayers and perseverance while waiting for God he had always exceeded my expectations. Just like Mary, I find myself rejoicing when God blesses me with good health, and financial success. As I look back I know that my spiritual life has grown through the hard times that I have had to endure.
