During my internship at one of the local insurance company, my manager always used his absolute power and authority to get things done with the organization. One of the instances, when he exercised his personal power to influence an individual, was when he forced the field manager to manipulate the sales returns with an aim to evade taxation despite the fact that he clearly understood that this might negatively cause the company. The manager was authoritative and always was after cutting the cost of operation through every means available irrespective of whether they are illegal of legal. Morally, this was very wrong, and the field manager clearly understood that this was a criminal offense that could result in his imprisonment. The other instance was when he introduced an abrupt change that we should report to work every Saturday without consulting us. He was very commanding, and we had to oblige though this significantly affected our morality and job satisfaction.
On the first instance, the field manager should have approached the manager cautiously and explain the impact of the action and what the company might lose in the process. This could have helped in enabling him to see sense in his criminal action that might lead to legal actions taken against the enterprise. Focusing on the second instance, the employees should have tried to develop an efficient relationship with the manager then let him understand that his decision is affecting the employee’s morale. It is critical to ensure that their relationship fits the needs and style and is characterized by a mutual expectation. The employee should make sure to keep the boss informed and at the same ensure that the relationship is founded on dependability and honesty. In this case, the manager might have reconsidered his action for the good of the company.
