There are several ways that Americans, as a nation, can use to merge grief and hope in today’s world. For instance, when a society trusts in God, they can face grief and survive it and find new life beyond the devastations faced. A nation that trusts in God may experience hope in the future, especially in the freshness of their grief. Based on biblical teachings, even in the darkest moments, Americans can find clear signs of God as well as the presence of his love. Although the nation may grieve at the death of loved ones, there is hope by faith in God’s promises .

House and Mitchell (2007) elaborate on the three stages of grief through which individuals have to undergo. The crisis stage lasts up through the funeral. During this stage, people are shocked and feel numb. The last stage is to seek for hope to calm the situation. Nothing is shocking or emotional than the tragedies that Americans have faced, which have claimed many lives to most of their loved ones. However, amid the confusion and hard times that Americans have faced as a nation, there are some few simple truths from the bible that can instill hope. In the Old Testament, several poignant stories mirror the Americans’ experiences. For instance, the death of Absalom, David’s son, provides a better picture of a grieving parent. According to House and Mitchell (2007), grieving is a condition that leaves people volatile as well as mentally confused and is painful in both expected and unexpected ways. Therefore, grief that is brought by the death of loved ones brings people together, as a nation.

Although grief might be emotional and painful, it is important to seek comfort from God. Individuals who grieve can seek help from grief support groups that can assist in recognizing the emotions and feelings and ensure that they are placed in perspective. Besides, seeking support from God can add increased support for individuals dealing with grief and loss of loved ones. Prayer can provide comfort and an open window of hope for the future.
