Statement of Intent

In writing the pastiche of “Straw into Gold” by Sandra Cisneros, I intend to change the original work of the author but maintain her style of writing throughout the pastiche. The style of the original work will be maintained in the flow and structure of the story while maintaining proper spelling and grammar. Some of the subjects that may change in the Pastiche include the setting, the plot, the characters, and the viewpoints.

Pastiche

When I was living in the Southern part of France, I was invited by a team of old childhood friends to come and share part of my culture with them as we have fun. They assumed that I am French and should be able to prepare French dishes without referring to any recipe. Indeed, I was always next to the nanny when she prepared French dishes, but I could not join a team of people from other countries and prove to them that I can prepare a traditional meal. I ate corn tortillas, but I never knew how they were prepared, and I had never been next to anyone making them in my entire life. My American friends gave me all the ingredients that were required to make tortillas and there I was, wondering what I was to do with all the ingredients. I have always had the same feeling when I am given a task that I know I cannot manage and give good results. I shied and lacked the confidence to prove my skills to my American friends. But there was fear that I was going to spoil the fun. I tried my best and made substandard tortillas. I preferred doing skills that I have mastered than things I was pressured to do.
