In the film hysteria, patients are exposed to a new technological achievement purposed to stimulate the female genitalia as a way of curing their ills. However, the encounters were appalling as the patients had to undergo many tests that inflicted pain and distress before leading to the invention of the vibrator (Hysteria, 2019). For instance, Emily develops a carpal injury in one of the massage sessions that is relatively harmful and painful to her.
On the other hand, Girl Interrupted, revolves around the life of Susan, who is a young woman in a series of dilemma and a patient in multiple institutions. However, she finds herself in a mental institution that is well renowned across the state where she is expected to live with troubled young women (Girl, Interrupted, 2019). Susan’s experience as a patient in the institution is characterised by multiple challenges especially because she is confused on whether she belongs to the inside or the outside with the real world. Her life in the institutions is coupled with challenges especially when she is unable to associate properly with other patients.

The patient experiences in the above films is quite horrendous especially due to the challenges they encounter in their lives. However, the experience that Susannah in the film Brain on the Fire film is more intense especially because of the plagued voices she hears in her head and seizures. As she is taken into a healthcare institution, she moves deeper into insanity, thereby developing violent behaviors and therefore having lengthy stays in the hospitals (Brain on Fire, 2019). Her life is shattered as she does not understand what is happening and how she can resolve her life properly.
