I am a researcher in positivism, and my research legacy is to conduct research studies that are deeply rooted in science. As a positivist researcher, I would like to use a case study approach to explore topics in professional sports leagues. As such, my research topics will fall under the discipline of leisure. The topic I would like to explore is the prevalence of drug use in professional sports. Since a case study approach is employed in this study, Major League Baseball and the National Football League will be used as case studies. But first, I would like to highlight my personal research manifesto. As detailed below, my 8-point principle statements for my research on the prevalence of drug use in professional sports.
The level playing field ideal is a myth.
We need to stop the use of drugs in sports, both professional and unprofessional sports, which is often referred to as doping because it is against the defined rules and laws governing sports.
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
We need to stop doping in professional sports, such as professional volleyball and baseball because it is unfair and goes against the level playing field ideal ( Efverström et al., 2016) .
We need to stop players from doping because doping poses health risks and is harmful to the individual (La Gerche & Brosnan, 2017).
We need to stop doping in professional sports because it contravenes other values defined as the “spirit of sport.” This includes value like fair play and honesty, and health (Fry, 2015).
We need to stop doping in professional sports because it sends an unacceptable message about the place and impact of sports in society.
We need to put in place anti-doping policies and punitive measures to curb doping in sports. The policies should consider players attitude or orientations ( Petróczi, 2007 ).
Governments, sports governing bodies, and the sport itself should take a zero-tolerance stance on doping in sports.
The 8-point statement of principles stated above is for my research manifesto, which is on the prevalence of drug use in professional sports. The statements mention the need to stop doping in sports due to their harmful effect and the need to level the playing field.
